August! Shuggie Otis, Galactic, Hootie, Dillon Fence

Getting busy here at HQ... Greg Humphreys Electric Trio is hitting the road, and Dillon Fence is playing some shows as well! We continued working on our debut Electric Trio studio album in July; Keith Robinson has done a great job mixing, and we're close to the finish line. Really proud of these songs, this recording, and this group.

ELECTRIC TRIO IN AUGUST

The Electric Trio (Matt Brandau, Keith) kicks the month off in style Saturday August 1 for a set at Raleigh NC's Lincoln Theatre supporting one of my all-time musical inspirations, soul legend Shuggie Otis. This will be our first trio show in Raleigh! We return to Bennettsville SC on Sunday August 2 for our second show with Four Oaks House Concerts.

On Friday August 14, the Electric Trio is back in BKLYN, supporting New Orleans funksters Galactic as part of their four-night stand at Brooklyn Bowl. On Saturday August 15, we head to Trumansburg NY for a 4p set at Big Mean Sound Machine's inaugural BBQ festival at CRAQ Barn. We're in Trumansburg the following Saturday as well (August 22), playing our own show at the wonderful Rongovian Embassy.

DILLON FENCE IN AUGUST

Dillon Fence is opening two nights (August 7 and 8) for our old tour-mates Hootie & The Blowfish at their annual Homegrown Concert weekend in Charleston SC. These shows are already SOLD OUT, but don't fret, Fence fans, because...

Scott Carle, Kent Alphin, Chris Goode and I are playing a very special Dillon Fence set on Saturday August 29 at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro NC for Be Loud ’15 weekend! The Veldt and Local supergroup Preeesh! (featuring members of The Pressure Boys, Ben Folds Five, Let’s Active, and Dag) share the bill with us on Saturday night.

Weekend passes and single night tickets are available through the Be Loud Sophie site. Friday August 28 features Southern Culture On The Skids, John Howie & The Rosewood Bluff, Neil Diamond All-Stars, and Chickenwire Gang. Anyone who follows the North Carolina music scene knows what a great weekend of music this will be! Proceeds benefit Be Loud Sophie foundation — read the story behind this wonderful organization here.

MAWWIAGE

These shows in August will likely be my last public performances for awhile. Rubina and I are getting married(!!!) in September, and we'll be on our honeymoon afterward. Yes, we'll be taking our boy Jim with us!

Thank you for your continued support. It means the world to me. I will be back to support our Greg Humphreys Electric Trio debut studio album before you know it, and I'll be keeping you posted. Hope to see you all in August!
More soon,
Greg

Cosmic Irony is a studio collaboration between producer / bassist Matt Brandau and me. We've been recording together on-and-off at his Upper West Side studio Chateau Brandau since I've been living in the city. These are our funky creations.

The first tune, "Crosstown", is a song we built around a Brandau bassline, with horns from Memphis saxophonist Art Edmaiston (Lucero, Gregg Allman Band, JJ Grey and MOFRO) and trumpeter Dennis Marion (JJ Grey and MOFRO). On "Cosmic Irony" we take a Latin trip down Existential Lane. "All Because of You" is pure pop and "More Than a Friend" is a downtown love song. Enjoy.

Shuggie Otis in NC, Galactic in NYC

Hey there! Hanging with my fam, writing songs and playing slide guitar after a busy June with Matt and Keith supporting Sonny Landreth.

We've also been mixing our new Electric Trio LP – I'm giddy with anticipation for you to hear this recording. Before I get ahead of myself, though, we have some exciting trio shows coming up in July and August.

We're supporting one of my all-time musical heroes, soul maestro Shuggie Otis, on Saturday August 1 at Raleigh NC's Lincoln Theatre.

On Friday August 14, we'll be back in BKLYN supporting New Orleans' own Galactic at Brooklyn Bowl.

We're also visiting Becket MA and Norwalk CT in July, and we'll be heading back to Bennettsville SC and Trumansburg NY in August.

June Dates with Sonny Landreth

My legs are covered in chigger bites, so it must be summer! Drummer Keith Robinson, Bassist Matt Brandau and I are opening for Louisiana guitar slinger Sonny Landreth this month in DE, NY, VA, and MD. Sonny is a fantastic slide guitar player with a singular style. List of dates below.

We're playing our own show in our neck of the woods on Saturday, June 13 at Red Hook's Hometown Bar-B-Que — two sets from 7:30 to 10:30.

North Cack folks, plan on our August 1 set in Raleigh at the Lincoln Theatre opening for legendary Soul visionary Shuggie Otis! His supremely awesome LP Inspiration Information might be the all-time most-played record in the Hobex van over the many years we toured.

THE NEW ELECTRIC TRIO ALBUM

We've been working on the new Greg Humphreys Electric Trio LP and it's sounding delicious. We cut the basic tracks in April at Overdub Lane with the amazing John Plymale; we've been working on guitars and vocals over at Keith's Cobble Hill studio these past few weeks. More soon on this impending slab of hot wax!

DILLON FENCE AT BE LOUD '15

Scott Carle, Kent Alphin, Chris Goode and I are excited to be a part of Be Loud ’15 on the weekend of August 28 and 29 at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro. We'll be playing on Saturday the 29th, along with local supergroup Preeesh! and The Veldt. Friday night will feature Southern Culture on the Skids, John Howie Jr. & The Rosewood Bluff. There's a family-friendly Saturday afternoon event in the works as well.

More details to come, but weekend passes are now available here through the Be Loud Sophie site for $40. These passes will cover both evening shows and the Saturday matinee — a full weekend of my all-time favorite North Carolina bands (and friends). It's an incredible deal for a great cause. Electric Trio Summer Dates

Hey there! The Cosmic Irony Spring Tour is history... we even made it through the six-shows-in-six-days gauntlet without incident.

THANK YOU to all the amazing people who came out to support us, to the bands that shared the bills, to the venues that hosted us, and to the folks who put us up. We couldn't do it without you.

A few of the shows were captured as live recordings by our sound engineers along the way, including Ed Griffin's multi-track of our hot and muddy late-Saturday-night set at Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival. Hope to share some of these recordings with you before too long.

ELECTRIC TRIO SUMMER DATES

Our Electric Trio Summer Dates are just around the corner. Matt Brandau, Keith Robinson and l will be visiting NY, DE, VA, MD, MA, and NC, with some slots opening for Louisiana guitar man Sonny Landreth and one of my all-time musical heroes, Shuggie Otis.

This month, we'll be returning to Trumansburg NY's Rongovian Embassy for a headlining set on Saturday May 23. We're also doing a residency of sorts at Williamsburg's Living Room with our friend Evelyn Brown — two Sunday evenings in a row, May 24 and 31.

NEW STUDIO ALBUM
FOR THE ELECTRIC TRIO

Greg Humphreys Electric Trio hit the studio while we were on tour in April. We spent a few days at Durham NC's Overdub Lane with our talented pal producer / engineer John Plymale, recording songs for a debut studio LP. We'll be working on that this summer as well. The basic tracks are thundering! I can't wait for y'all to hear it.

DILLON FENCE AT SHAKORI HILLS

The Dillon Fence set at Shakori was rockin', thanks to a big crowd of friends and fans. I really do enjoy getting together with my old mates Scott Carle, Kent Alphin, and Chris Goode. Our new tunes were a hit, too!

We'll be doing it again on August 29 — Dillon Fence will be at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill for Be Loud 2015. It's a benefit show for a great cause and just a great get-together. Keep an eye out for the all-star lineup announcement and the advance ticket purchasing link at the Be Loud Sophie site.

Greg

Electric Trio Spring Tour!

February in New York City has again kicked me up and down the street! We had some great trio shows despite the cold, including a set opening for Karl Denson's Tiny Universe at Brooklyn Bowl.

We're laying low in March, but we do have a 10p set at Superfine this Sunday, March 1. Humble Tripe, some folkie friends of mine from NC well worth hearing, play at 8p.

I'm also playing a solo acoustic set at The Falcon in Marlboro NY on Thursday March 5. I'll be opening for (and singing a tune with) my super-talented friend Erik Deutsch and his group the Jazz Outlaws.

GREG HUMPHREYS ELECTRIC TRIO – COSMIC IRONY SPRING TOUR 2015

Greg Humphreys Electric Trio is hitting the road again in April! Matt Brandau, Keith Robinson and I are excited to play some new tunes for you. DILLON FENCE AT SHAKORI

Did I mention that Dillon Fence, the storied North Carolina alt-pop-rock group of the late '80s and early '90s featuring guitarist/vocalist Kent Alphin, drummer Scott Carle,  bassist/vocalist Chris Goode and myself will be performing a special 8p Meadow Stage set at Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival on Friday, April 17?

Shakori is one my all-time fave music festivals, with an invariably entertaining roster of performers and a wonderful family atmosphere. It's also an all-ages event, so you can bring the whole family and camp. My trio will be playing a festival set as well. The trio is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, so make a weekend of it and hang with us! The ticket pricing guide is here and single-day tickets are now available.

ELECTRIC TRIO LIVE AT THE RONGO

Crazy travel story around our gig in Trumansburg NY a couple of weeks ago. First, our rental car had a flat tire headed into the Holland Tunnel. Then we had to trade our car in and deal with gridlock traffic. The temperature gauge got down to -12 F on our way there. It ended up taking seven hours, but we made the gig at 10pm.  The gig itself was awesome! Great crowd, and headliners Big Mean Sound Machine killed it. We have some great live video and audio from the show, thanks to Finger Lakes Music Press and Greg McGrath. Check out these hot versions of Only One of Me and Natural Child.

More soon,

Enjoy.

The Rock at Live Wood  LP, from an Electric Trio set at Rockwood Music Hall, is alternately thoughtful and blistering. Mixed by Keith Robinson, it features live arrangements of songs from the Cosmic Irony EP along with some trio versions of tunes from my solo acoustic LPs and HOBEX recordings.
