Miami bound and down

Happy 2016 to you! Greg Humphreys Electric Trio (myself, bassist Matt Brandau, drummer Keith Robinson) is headed to Miami FL to play an afternoon set at Virginia Key Grassroots Festival on Saturday, February 20. Escape winter and join us! The lineup of performers is fantastic. Tickets and information here.

The new Electric Trio LP is done — tracked with John Plymale, mixed by Keith Robinson, and mastered by Greg Calbi. We are happy with the way it sounds. Still plotting a release and tour; more on that as it develops.

Back in NYC after a few months of extended travel with my family. I did sneak in a couple of shows while in Chiang Mai and Bangkok, Thailand, thanks to Joe Cummings and David Burris. My pick-up bands were great. Thank you Nicky Scott, George Martin, Björn Morén, Joe, Cameron Cooper, and Jerry Kelley! The crowds at Papa Rock and Fatty's Bar were a lot of fun. I've gotta say, it was a thrill for me to rock the house halfway around the world.

Our packed Dillon Fence show in December at the Visulite Theatre was a homecoming to remember for Kent Alphin, Chris Goode, Scott Carle and me. Our original drummer Brooke Pitts sat in on one of our earliest tunes, Kent's "Baby On Board." HOBEX bassist Andy Ware and Hootie guitarist Mark Bryan joined us to back Chris on vox for a raucous version of "Ziggy Stardust". It was the first time we had played the song in over twenty years — three weeks before David Bowie's unexpected passing. Uncanny. Dan Wuori posted quite a few more YouTube vids of complete songs from the show, if you missed it and would like to hear some faves. Thank you to everyone who came! Fence fans: we will be releasing some new tunes this year, so keep an eye out for the news.
More soon,
Greg

Cosmic Irony is a studio collaboration between producer / bassist Matt Brandau and me. We've been recording together on-and-off at his Upper West Side studio Chateau Brandau since I've been living in the city. These are our funky creations.

The first tune, "Crosstown", is a song we built around a Brandau bassline, with horns from Memphis saxophonist Art Edmaiston (Lucero, Gregg Allman Band, JJ Grey and MOFRO) and trumpeter Dennis Marion (JJ Grey and MOFRO). On "Cosmic Irony" we take a Latin trip down Existential Lane. "All Because of You" is pure pop and "More Than a Friend" is a downtown love song. Enjoy.

Dillon Fence at Visulite Theater Dec 18

Greetings from Chiang Mai, Thailand! Rubina and I are honeymooning and we have our boy Jim with us. Today is Loi Krathong here — Festival of Light. We happened to be in Paris during the recent attacks... you can read a post I shared on Facebook telling my story of that experience here. You can check out some snaps from our time in Paris on my Instagram page. I also posted a short tribute to recently departed legendary New Orleans songwriter/producer/performer Allen Toussaint.

DILLON FENCE AT THE VISULITE THEATER — DECEMBER 18

Dillon Fence — Scott Carle, Kent Alphin, Chris Goode, and myself — is playing a special holiday show on Friday December 18 at the Visulite Theatre in Charlotte, North Carolina. This will be our only show of the season. Very special guest Mark Bryan of Hootie and the Blowfish opens the show. We'll be playing your faves, as well as some new tunes we recorded with John Plymale in August. You can buy advance tickets here. Tickets are selling briskly, so get yours early. Mark Harkness designed our show poster above— we'll have a few screenprints for sale at the show. We look forward to seeing our Charlotte people!

SOLO SHOW IN THAILAND

Playing a solo set tomorrow night Thursday November 26 here in Chiang Mai at Papa Rock, thanks to a couple of friends—  director/musician David Burris and rock 'n' roller Joe Cummings. I'll be doing a solo acoustic set and an electric set backed up by Nicky Scott and pals. Ruby, Jim and I will be missing our family stateside, but it'll be a rock 'n' roll Thanksgiving for us this year. Another show is in the works for Bangkok, so check the schedj if you have any friends there you'd like to send my way.

ELECTRIC TRIO LP, 2016 DATES

The new Greg Humphreys Electric Trio LP is DONE! Legendary mastering engineer Greg Calbi recently mastered the recording in NYC and it sounds fantastic. We recorded the tracks in April at Overdub Lane with John Plymale and finished it up over the summer with Keith Robinson; this album is a true product of all our work together over the past couple of years and we can't wait for you to hear it. Plans are in the works for Matt Brandau, Keith and I to hit the road in early 2016 and bring the tunes to you.
More soon,
Greg

Thank you!

Seven weeks of joy and madness have passed... Rubina and I were married on September 12 in Montauk, NY. I'm taking a break from the road this fall, but I wanted to recap some of August's unforgettable musical exploits with you before I forget them. (Thanks, Yogi Berra.) Above, Dillon Fence set at Be Loud '15, Cat's Cradle, August 29. Photo by Jonathan Drake.

Our Electric Trio show with Shuggie Otis in Raleigh NC on August 1 was crazier than you might expect. Shuggie delivered a polarizing yet undeniably striking performance. He was a real wildman on stage, pushing toward chaos and sometimes crossing the line. It was an honor to share a bill and hang out with one of my fave soul artists. Thank you to Shuggie Otis and The Lincoln Theatre, and thanks to all that came out to the show! Photo by Matt Brandau.

Greg Humphreys Electric Trio played our biggest show yet in NYC on August 14, supporting New Orleans' Galactic at a sold-out Brooklyn Bowl. Matt Brandau, Keith Robinson and I hit it hard for the packed house. Our debut Electric Trio studio LP is being mastered this month — look for a taste soon. Photo by Jason Finestone.

Dillon Fence spent August 7 and 8 in Charleston SC with our friends Hootie & The Blowfish at their annual Homegrown Concert weekend. Not only did they put us on the big stage to warm up the crowd, They pulled us up both nights during their set to perform our song "Something For You" together. The whole weekend was a real thrill for Kent Alphin, Chris Goode, Scott Carle and I after so many years. Thank you Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim 'Soni' Sonefeld — we love you guys. Photos by Chris Condon.

Our Dillon Fence set on August 29 at Cat's Cradle for Be Loud ’15 was another thrill! So many of our fans and friends came out to support such a wonderful cause, Be Loud Sophie Foundation, and y'all really brought some amazing energy into the building. Thank you for lifting us up. Below is a photo from Jonathan Drake capturing the sold-out crowd during our set.

Missed the show? Dan Wuori shot some some front row youtube vids of The Fence playing For A While, Frances, Black Eyed Susan, Daylight, Something For You. and our encore cover of AC/DC's Shake a Leg. I sang a few later in the evening with Chapel Hill supergroup Preeesh!, which featured Rob Ladd, John Plymale, Robert Sledge, and Brian Dennis — check out our take on The Jam's Town Called Malice and Elvis Costello's Alison.

While we were all together, Dillon Fence hit Overdub Lane in Durham with John Plymale to record some new tunes. New Dillon Fence music and debut Greg Humphreys Electric Trio LP are on the way! See you in 2016, folks.
Greg

August! Shuggie Otis, Galactic, Hootie, Dillon Fence

Getting busy here at HQ... Greg Humphreys Electric Trio is hitting the road, and Dillon Fence is playing some shows as well! We continued working on our debut Electric Trio studio album in July; Keith Robinson has done a great job mixing, and we're close to the finish line. Really proud of these songs, this recording, and this group.

ELECTRIC TRIO IN AUGUST

The Electric Trio (Matt Brandau, Keith) kicks the month off in style Saturday August 1 for a set at Raleigh NC's Lincoln Theatre supporting one of my all-time musical inspirations, soul legend Shuggie Otis. This will be our first trio show in Raleigh! We return to Bennettsville SC on Sunday August 2 for our second show with Four Oaks House Concerts.

On Friday August 14, the Electric Trio is back in BKLYN, supporting New Orleans funksters Galactic as part of their four-night stand at Brooklyn Bowl. On Saturday August 15, we head to Trumansburg NY for a 4p set at Big Mean Sound Machine's inaugural BBQ festival at CRAQ Barn. We're in Trumansburg the following Saturday as well (August 22), playing our own show at the wonderful Rongovian Embassy.

DILLON FENCE IN AUGUST

Dillon Fence is opening two nights (August 7 and 8) for our old tour-mates Hootie & The Blowfish at their annual Homegrown Concert weekend in Charleston SC. These shows are already SOLD OUT, but don't fret, Fence fans, because...

Scott Carle, Kent Alphin, Chris Goode and I are playing a very special Dillon Fence set on Saturday August 29 at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro NC for Be Loud ’15 weekend! The Veldt and Local supergroup Preeesh! (featuring members of The Pressure Boys, Ben Folds Five, Let’s Active, and Dag) share the bill with us on Saturday night.

Weekend passes and single night tickets are available through the Be Loud Sophie site. Friday August 28 features Southern Culture On The Skids, John Howie & The Rosewood Bluff, Neil Diamond All-Stars, and Chickenwire Gang. Anyone who follows the North Carolina music scene knows what a great weekend of music this will be! Proceeds benefit Be Loud Sophie foundation — read the story behind this wonderful organization here.

MAWWIAGE

These shows in August will likely be my last public performances for awhile. Rubina and I are getting married(!!!) in September, and we'll be on our honeymoon afterward. Yes, we'll be taking our boy Jim with us!

Thank you for your continued support. It means the world to me. I will be back to support our Greg Humphreys Electric Trio debut studio album before you know it, and I'll be keeping you posted. Hope to see you all in August!

Greg
